Evansville, IN Soliciting & Door-to-Door: Solicitor Permits (2026)

Evansville Municipal Code Chapter 5.20 requires any person over 16 who solicits orders door-to-door or on a street or public place for future delivery of goods, wares, merchandise, or services to register before soliciting. The applicant files a Police Department form with identifying information, a physical description, the firm being represented, the goods offered, any criminal history, and a photo and signature specimen; police then stamp approval on the application and may deny it to anyone convicted of a felony, a moral-turpitude misdemeanor, or a violation of this chapter. The stamped credentials are nontransferable and must be shown on request to any officer or prospective customer. Salespeople selling to stores for resale, and anyone with a regular Evansville place of business for the prior 12 months, are exempt from registering.
