Jefferson Parish, LA Special Events & Permits: Parade Permits (2026)

Chapter 6, Article V governs Carnival and Mardi Gras parades in Jefferson Parish. Sec. 6-74 requires every float parade and truck parade to obtain an annual permit from the Office of Carnival and Special Events before it can roll, and Sec. 6-75(a) caps how many float-parade organizations can hold that permit in a given year, naming the specific East Bank krewes (Argus, Athena, Atlas, Centurions, Excalibur, Kings, MadHatters, Symphony) and West Bank krewes (Music, Nandi) currently eligible, with the East Bank total capped at eleven parades.

Only two truck-parade permits are allowed under Sec. 6-75(e). Under Sec. 6-76(a), a krewe applying for a permit must file with the office no later than July of the year before the parade season and submit its float-provider agreement, articles of incorporation, current Secretary of State standing certificate, and its IRS Form 990. Sec. 6-76(e) additionally requires that a float or truck parade organization have been chartered with the Louisiana Secretary of State for at least twelve months before applying. Krewes owe interim filings too: a notarized statement 180 days before the season confirming the prior year's parade expenses are paid, and written documentation from the float provider confirming a signed contract for the coming season, per Sec.

6-76(b) and (c). A permit still governs where and when a krewe parades: Sec. 6-68 fixes the actual East Bank and West Bank routes by street, and Sec. 6-77 locks each krewe into the same route, position and date from year to year unless changed for cause. If a krewe misses a deadline, fails to parade, or loses its permit for cause, Sec. 6-75(b) and Sec. 6-77(b) let the parish cancel that krewe's eligibility for that year and every year after, opening the position to a new applicant.
