Coweta County, GA Special Events & Permits: Parade Permits (2026)

Article VI of chapter 54, §§ 54-200 through 54-204, governs any event that uses the county's public road system, defined as county-owned or county-maintained roads within unincorporated Coweta County, not private roads or driveways. Section 54-200 makes it unlawful to hold an event such as a foot race, vehicle race, bike race, bike ride, fun run or walk, filming, or car show on that road system without first obtaining a right-of-way usage permit. Under § 54-201, the applicant files with the parks and recreation department's event services division at least 90 days before the event date, and the application must include the organizer's contact information, an activity leader, the route with a map showing rest stops and restroom locations, expected attendance, event hours, a parking and transportation plan, the number of law enforcement officers needed, proof of insurance and a hold-harmless agreement, environmental health department sign-off on trash and toilet facilities, sheriff's approval of the route, and, where applicable, EMA director approval that emergency response won't be blocked.

Coweta County Fire Rescue must also be notified of every permit issued. 00, nonrefundable, due at filing, and the board of commissioners can revise that fee over time. Section 54-202 lets the county administrator issue the permit only after finding the event won't substantially disrupt traffic, divert law enforcement from other duties, interfere with emergency response, risk injury or disorder, unreasonably burden the roads, or create a nuisance for neighboring property owners. Section 54-203 lets the sheriff, public safety director, or county administrator suspend or revoke a permit for cause, including violations that create an emergency.
