Union County, NJ Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

Laws of Union County § 115-5 governs permits for the use of county recreational facilities and park land. C, the County Manager, acting through the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, adopts and promulgates the rules for granting permits and for operating every recreational facility the county owns, leases, or controls, provided the rules are posted where the public can see them. E, and the decision whether to grant a permit rests in the Director's sound discretion; approval can carry attached terms and conditions.

A. B forfeits the fees already paid to the county, and the permit holder along with any agents or employees who caused the violation remain jointly liable for any damages beyond the forfeited amount. Fees for county parks and recreation programs are set through an annually adopted schedule under § 107-6; the current Schedule of Fees ordinance is on file with the Clerk of the Board and open for public inspection during office hours. The Director may also set or adjust fees not already on the schedule, and can modify listed fees for special promotions up to twelve times a year with the County Manager's written approval, filing notice with the Clerk and the Finance Department at least five days before the change takes effect.

Separately, § 107-5 directs the Department to waive athletic field reservation fees for Union County public and private schools and municipal recreation departments running youth activities on county park fields.
