Tuscaloosa, AL Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

City Code Sec. 18-98 makes it unlawful to conduct, allow, or participate in an organized or sanctioned event of vessels on Lake Tuscaloosa, or a similar activity on the surrounding city-owned park property, without a permit approved by the director of the water and sewer department. The same permit requirement extends to Lake Nicol and Harris Lake under Sec. 18-49, which cross-references the Sec. 18-98 procedure. Applications go to the city water and sewer department and can be pulled online from the lakes webpage or picked up in person at the lakes office.

Permittees must agree to a detailed list of conditions: confine activity to the permitted area and time, follow all state boating and alcohol laws plus any rules of the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority, staff the event with enough personnel and equipment, and keep on hand trained staff certified in water safety and CPR for the full duration. 00 naming the city, its officers, agents, and employees as additional insureds, with the certificate filed alongside the application. The permittee is also on the hook for restroom facilities at the launch or event site, cleanup of all trash and litter afterward, and any damage to public property.

Because the lake and surrounding grounds are permanently dedicated as public park land under Sec. 18-48, this permit functions as the city's park-facility event authorization for the lakes system.
