Passaic County, NJ Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

" Permits are mandatory year-round in every county-owned and operated park for three categories of activity: any use, picnic or event that has or could reasonably be expected to have ten or more persons involved, or any use that could have a detrimental effect on park property or other users; athletic group events or practices of ten or more individuals; and any coach or trainer running a for-profit activity at a county park facility with ten or more participants. A separate track applies to the county's historic sites, where permits cover group tours of ten or more, meetings, private functions, fundraisers, corporate events, weddings and filming, and are issued by the Director of the Department of Cultural & Historic Affairs rather than the Parks Director.

All non-historic-site permits are issued by the Parks Director or a designated representative, and every request must go through the online application on the county's website. Groups of fifty or more, and all organized sports use, must show proof of insurance; smaller groups doing camping, filming or special events may still be required to show proof of insurance if the Parks Director and insurance department determine it necessary. No permit is issued without full payment of fees and the security deposit, plus a signed hold-harmless agreement or proof of insurance.

Permits are non-transferable, and the permittee or a designated representative must stay on site with physical possession of the permit for the duration of the event.
