Alaska Outdoor Burning Permit Requirements Statewide

AS 41.15.060 and 11 AAC 95 give the Division of Forestry & Fire Protection authority over wildfire prevention on state-protected lands. From April 1 through August 31, anyone burning brush piles or operating a burn barrel must hold a free state burn permit and activate it each day by checking conditions online or by phone. Small recreational campfires under three feet are exempt but must be attended and fully extinguished. The state may suspend or restrict burning during high or extreme fire danger. Burning trash, treated wood, plastics, or hazardous materials is prohibited. Local fire service areas may impose stricter rules.

Burning without a permit or during a suspension is a violation; escaped fires may bring suppression cost recovery, civil liability, and criminal charges.
