Alaska Concealed Carry Rules Set Statewide by Legislature

Alaska law allows any person 21 or older who may lawfully possess a firearm to carry concealed without a permit. AS 18.65.700 through 18.65.790 establish an optional concealed handgun permit primarily used for reciprocity in other states. Carriers must inform peace officers of a concealed weapon when contacted. Firearms preemption under AS 29.35.145 prevents municipalities from creating separate concealed carry licenses, fees, or training mandates. Certain locations, such as schools, courts, and licensed premises serving alcohol, remain off-limits under state law.

Carrying in a prohibited location or failing to disclose to officers can result in misdemeanor charges and weapon seizure.
