Alaska Charitable Solicitation Registration State Requirements

Under AS 45.68, charitable organizations must file an annual registration with the Alaska Department of Law before soliciting contributions, including online, mail, telephone, and in-person solicitation. Paid solicitors and fundraising counsel face additional registration, contract filing, and reporting duties. Solicitors must disclose the charity's name, the solicitor's status as paid, and that financial information is available from the Department of Law. Certain religious organizations and small nonprofits raising under $5,000 are exempt. Cities may impose additional door-to-door permit requirements for commercial solicitation but cannot waive the state charitable registration mandate.

Unregistered solicitation is an unfair trade practice under AS 45.50 and can bring civil penalties up to $25,000, injunctions, and restitution to donors.
