Massachusetts Concealed Carry License Requirements (LTC)

Under MGL Chapter 140 Section 131, applicants for a License to Carry must be at least 21, complete an approved firearms safety course, submit fingerprints, and demonstrate suitability. Following Bruen, Massachusetts amended its statute in 2022 to remove broad subjective discretion, but chiefs retain authority to deny applicants posing risks to public safety. The LTC permits concealed carry of handguns and possession of large-capacity rifles. Restrictions still apply in schools, courthouses, government buildings, and private property where prohibited.

Carrying a firearm without a valid LTC is a felony under MGL Chapter 269 Section 10(a) carrying mandatory minimum incarceration in many circumstances.
