Minnesota Concealed Carry Permits Under Statute 624.714

Minn. Stat. 624.714 governs the permit-to-carry system for pistols. County sheriffs must issue permits to applicants who are at least 21, complete approved training, pass a background check, and are not disqualified by criminal history, mental commitments, or domestic violence orders. Permits are valid for five years and recognize many out-of-state permits with substantially similar standards. Local governments cannot impose additional carry restrictions beyond state law, though private property owners and certain government buildings may post against carry under statutory rules.

Carrying without a valid permit is a gross misdemeanor on first offense and a felony on subsequent offenses under state law.
