Mississippi LP Gas Storage and Installation Standards

Under Miss. Code Ann. Sections 75-57-1 through 75-57-119, the Mississippi Liquefied Compressed Gas Board licenses LP gas dealers, installers, transporters, and inspects installations. The state has adopted the National Fire Protection Association Pamphlet 58 (NFPA 58) as the LP-Gas Code, governing tank setbacks, container sizes, valves, piping, and dispensing. Residential propane tanks must meet minimum distance requirements from buildings, ignition sources, and property lines based on tank capacity. Only licensed dealers may fill consumer cylinders. The state preempts most local LP gas regulation to ensure uniform safety standards, though local fire codes may impose additional fire-protection requirements.

Operating without a Board license, improper tank installation, illegal cylinder filling, or violating NFPA 58 setbacks may result in license revocation, fines up to $1,000 per violation, and stop-work orders.
