Montana Statewide Fireworks Sales and Use Restrictions

Under MCA Title 50, Chapter 37, consumer fireworks may be sold only between June 24 and July 5 and December 29 through January 1 each year. Permissible fireworks include items such as cone fountains, sparklers, and certain aerial devices, while bottle rockets and similar Class C explosives are prohibited statewide. Buyers must be at least 18 years old. Sellers must obtain licensing from the State Fire Marshal. The state sets a baseline floor; counties and municipalities may further restrict dates, locations, or ban fireworks entirely, but cannot expand state-allowed dates or items.

Selling outside permitted dates or without a license is a misdemeanor. Discharging prohibited fireworks may result in fines and liability for any resulting fire damage.
