New Mexico Concealed Handgun License Requirements

Under NMSA 1978 Sections 29-19-1 through 29-19-15, the Concealed Handgun Carry Act requires applicants to be at least 21, complete a 15-hour firearms training course from a state-approved instructor, and pass background checks. Licenses are valid for four years and must be renewed with continuing education. Concealed carry is prohibited in schools, courthouses, polling places, establishments primarily serving alcohol, and on premises posted against carry. The state constitution permits municipalities to regulate concealed carry on government-owned property, creating a patchwork in some jurisdictions.

Carrying a concealed handgun without a valid license is a petty misdemeanor for a first offense, with subsequent offenses elevated to fourth-degree felony status.
