Oklahoma Wildfire Hazard and Forestry Authority

Title 2 O.S. Sections 16-21 through 16-30 designate Oklahoma Forestry Services as the lead agency for wildfire prevention, detection, and suppression statewide. The Director may enter any land to extinguish or contain wildfire, may close forest land to public access during extreme fire danger, and may recover suppression costs from negligent parties. Oklahoma does not have formal Wildland-Urban Interface zone designations like California, but counties classified as protected forest land receive direct state suppression resources. Municipalities cannot block state fire crews or override forestry closure orders during active wildfire emergencies.

Negligently or willfully causing a wildfire is a misdemeanor or felony depending on damage, with fines up to $10,000, jail time, and full suppression cost recovery owed to the state.
