Rhode Island Cannabis Home Cultivation Limits Set Statewide

Under RIGL Chapter 21-28.11 (the Rhode Island Cannabis Act of 2022), adults 21 and older may possess up to one ounce in public, store up to ten ounces at home, and cultivate up to three mature and three immature cannabis plants per person, with a household maximum of twelve plants. Plants must be grown out of public view and in a secure space inaccessible to those under 21. Medical patients and caregivers operate under separate, more permissive rules. The state framework preempts municipal bans on personal cultivation.

Exceeding plant limits or improper storage can result in civil fines, forfeiture of plants, and possible criminal charges for distribution outside the personal-use scheme.
