Vermont Statewide Rental Housing Registry Required

Under 18 V.S.A. § 627, all owners of residential rental properties must register units with the state Rental Housing Registry, established by Act 76 of 2023. The annual registration includes ownership contact information, unit count, and inspection status. The Department of Housing and Community Development coordinates with municipalities operating local rental inspection programs. Registration fees fund the Rental Housing Improvement Program. Local rental registration ordinances remain valid but cannot substitute for the state registry.
