Wyoming Fire Code Propane and LP-Gas Storage Standards

Effective January 1, 2022, Wyoming adopted the 2021 International Fire Code as the statewide minimum, including Chapter 61 governing liquefied petroleum gas. All LP-gas storage, handling, transportation, and equipment installation must comply with IFC Chapter 61 and NFPA 58. Containers exceeding 4,000 gallons aggregate water capacity require fire protection. Single containers over 2,000 gallons or aggregate over 4,000 gallons require submitted construction documents. Multi-container installations exceeding 180,000 gallons total must be subdivided into 180,000-gallon groups separated by 50 feet. Permits are required before distributors may fill containers. Local jurisdictions may impose stricter standards but cannot waive the state baseline.

Operating an LP-gas installation without required permits or in violation of IFC Chapter 61 may trigger stop-work orders, fines, and refusal of fill service by distributors.
