4, Private Residential Permanent Pools, sets the standards for above- or below-ground pools on residential lots in Linden. Subsection a restricts pools to rear yards only. Subsection b caps pool size at twenty-five percent of the rear yard area, or eight hundred square feet of water surface, whichever number is smaller. Subsection c requires that no edge of the pool, or any paved patio, deck, or improvement built as part of it, sit closer than five feet to a building or a lot line. The fencing rule that governs is subsection d: the rear yard area, or the portion of it where the pool sits, must be completely enclosed with fencing no less than four feet in height nor more than eight feet in height, in order to deny accidental access to the pool.

That four-to-eight-foot band is a floor and ceiling, not a suggestion; a fence under four feet fails to meet the minimum, and a fence taller than eight feet exceeds what the section permits.
