Plant City enforces FL Β§515 Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act: 48-inch minimum barrier, self-closing self-latching gates opening outward, and at least one additional safety feature (pool alarm, safety cover, or door alarm).
FL Β§515.27 requires all residential pools built after October 2000 to have a barrier at least 48 inches high, no gaps over 4 inches, and no horizontal climbable members between 45 inches. Gates must be self-closing, self-latching, opening outward from the pool with latch at least 54 inches above ground. Pool cannot be filled until barrier inspection passes. Additionally, at least one of: (1) approved pool safety cover meeting ASTM F1346; (2) exit alarms on all doors providing direct pool access; (3) all pool-access doors self-closing self-latching; or (4) swimming pool alarm compliant with ASTM F2208. Plant City Building Division enforces at inspection. Above-ground pools with non-climbable 48-inch sides and removable/locked ladders may qualify the pool wall as the barrier.
No barrier/alarm: second-degree misdemeanor under FL Β§515.29, plus daily $500 fines. Pool filled without inspection: mandatory drain order.
