SMMC Β§23.08.150 adopts the California Swimming Pool Safety Act requirements with local amendments. Pool barriers must be at least 60 inches (5 feet) high, self-closing and self-latching, with latches at least 60 inches above the ground. Ground clearance must not exceed 2 inches; no gaps over 4 inches in diameter. Gates must open away from the pool. Two additional drowning prevention safety features (door alarm, pool alarm, mesh safety fence, or safety cover) are required. Pool equipment louder than 35 dBA must be 25 feet from neighbors or enclosed per SMMC Ch. 7.30.
Non-compliant barriers: immediate correction required. Fines $100 to $500. Liability for drowning incidents significantly increased without proper barriers.
