Springfield, MA Swimming Pools & Spas: Fencing & Safety Requirements (2026)

City Code § 347-4 requires every swimming pool in Springfield, new or already built, to be enclosed by a fence at least four feet high and of a type not readily climbed by children. The fence can't be more than 30 feet from the pool edge, so a distant property-line fence doesn't satisfy the chapter; the barrier has to actually surround the pool itself. The rule applies to below-ground pools at least 36 inches deep, the definition set in § 347-1, and it's enforced alongside the siting standard in § 347-3 requiring an eight-foot setback from any lot line.
