Pools in unincorporated Travis County must be enclosed by a barrier at least 48 inches high with self-closing, self-latching gates per 2021 IRC Appendix V, Section AV105, as locally adopted.
Barrier requirements: minimum 48-inch height measured on exterior side; maximum 4-inch gap between bottom of barrier and ground (2 inches where ground is not solid); vertical member spacing under 1 and 3/4 inches where horizontal members are less than 45 inches apart. Gates must open outward, be self-closing and self-latching, with release mechanism at least 54 inches above ground. Where a dwelling wall serves as part of the barrier, all doors to the pool area must have alarms or the pool must have a power safety cover compliant with ASTM F1346.
