McCracken County does not carry a stand-alone pool ordinance; instead, an in-ground pool is treated as construction requiring a permit under the Chapter 70 building code, which adopts the Kentucky State Building Code and State Residential Code in full under § 70.01 and requires a permit with fees under § 70.04. The Chapter 71 fee schedule spells out the actual cost: § 71.01(B)(8) sets a flat $75 fee for in-ground swimming pools, distinct from the square-footage-based fees charged for houses, additions and accessory buildings elsewhere in the same subsection.

Before that permit issues, § 70.07 requires the applicant to show a Kentucky Employer ID number and proof of workers' compensation insurance for any contractors performing the work, and to secure sign-off from the County Planning and Zoning Administrator, County Health Department, County Tax Administrator and County Floodplain Administrator where applicable, the same pre-permit clearances required for any other building permit in the county. Inspections of the completed pool installation fall under the general building inspection program in § 70.03, administered by the county Building Official using inspectors certified by the State Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction.

Because Chapter 72's hazardous-buildings provisions separately define an abandoned swimming pool as an 'unsafe premises' attractive-nuisance condition, a pool later left derelict can trigger a second, unrelated enforcement track after the initial $75 permit and inspection are complete.
