Anaheim enforces California Swimming Pool Safety Act (H&S Code 115920+) requirements including anti-entrapment covers, barriers, and at least two of seven safety features for new pool construction.
Anaheim enforces the California Swimming Pool Safety Act (Health and Safety Code Section 115920 and following) which requires at least two of seven specified safety features for new residential pool construction: enclosure, removable mesh fence, approved safety cover, exit alarms on doors, self-closing/self-latching devices, alarm in the pool, or other approved means. Anti-entrapment drain covers meeting Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act standards are required on all pools. AMC 6.56 establishes local barrier requirements. Pool owners must maintain all safety features in working condition. Residential pools must be maintained to prevent standing water that could become a mosquito breeding ground per OC Mosquito and Vector Control District. Children under supervision age should never be left unattended near pools. The city's Building Division inspects pool safety features during construction and may inspect upon complaint.
Missing safety features: correction order. Non-compliant drain covers: immediate hazard citation. Unmaintained pool creating vector hazard: health department action.
