AMC Section 6.56 and the California Building Code require barriers around all swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs in Anaheim. Barriers must be at least 60 inches high with no openings allowing passage of a 4-inch sphere. Gates must swing away from the pool and be self-closing with self-latching devices. When the latch mechanism is less than 54 inches from ground, it must be on the pool side at least 3 inches below the top. All metal surfaces including fences, flashings, motors, sliding doors, post bases, building weep screed, switches, rebar or mesh in concrete decking within 5 feet of pool water must be bonded to pool shell reinforcement per electrical code. Building permit applications must include two sets of plans (minimum 18x24) with plot plans showing fence and gate details, cross sections with dimensions from property line to property line, and engineered construction plans.
Non-compliant barrier: correction notice with deadline. No barrier: immediate hazard abatement. Failed bonding inspection: electrical rework required. Fines for non-compliance.
