All gates and doors through a Lincoln pool enclosure must have a self-closing and self-latching device keeping them closed whenever the pool is not in use. Only a dwelling door forming part of the enclosure is exempt.
Lincoln Municipal Code 8.36.020 backs up the four-foot barrier with hardware rules. Every gate or door opening through the enclosure must be self-closing and self-latching so it stays securely closed when the pool is not in actual use. The one exception is a door of the dwelling that forms part of the enclosure. Combined with the four-inch maximum gap rule, the standard is designed to keep young children from unsupervised access to the water. The city may inspect and order corrections.
Failing to maintain self-closing, self-latching gates on a required pool enclosure violates Chapter 8.36 and is subject to municipal citation and correction orders.
