Pinellas Park enforces the Florida Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act, requiring at least one approved safety feature on all new residential pools, spas, and hot tubs to reduce drowning risk for children.
Under FS 515.27, every new residential pool in Pinellas Park must include at least one of: an isolating barrier separating the pool from the home, an ASTM F1346 approved safety pool cover, exit alarms on doors leading to the pool, or self-closing self-latching devices on those doors at least 54 inches high. The Building Development Division provides a Pool Safety Act notice that owners must sign at permit application. Final certificate of completion is withheld until the safety feature is installed and verified by inspection. Spas and hot tubs may instead use a locked safety cover meeting ASTM standards.
Failing to install required safety features is a second-degree misdemeanor under FS 515.29 and prevents issuance of a certificate of completion or occupancy.
