Full Breakdown

Sec. 14-36(10) of the nuisance ordinance singles out garbage cans, or similar containers, regularly stored in residential front yards on non-collection days and visible from public or private property. It's enforced through the same nuisance-abatement process as the rest of Sec. 14-36: a notice from the county, a chance to voluntarily correct or appeal, and county abatement (billed to the owner) if the condition isn't fixed.

Violations & Fines

The county can send a nuisance notice requiring cans be moved out of front-yard view between collection days; failure to comply lets the county abate the condition and bill the cost to the property owner as a special assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I leave my trash cans out in the front yard?
Only on collection day, or if they're not visible from public or private property. Sec. 14-36(10) makes visible front-yard storage on non-collection days a public nuisance.
Who enforces the can-placement rule?
The county's nuisance-abatement process under Chapter 14, Article IV: notice, a chance to correct or appeal, then county abatement if uncorrected.
