Paramus Chapter 379 sets requirements for where residents must place garbage containers and how containers must be covered, drained, and accessible to DPW crews.
Under Chapter 379, garbage and ashes must be stored in watertight covered containers placed in a convenient location at the side or rear of the residence, school, or church, readily accessible to Department of Public Works personnel without undue effort. Current DPW guidance directs residents to bag kitchen garbage and place it in a covered automated collection container at the curb on collection day, since crews no longer remove garbage from elsewhere on the property. Containers must remain covered to prevent spillage and animal access. Bundled rubbish must be securely tied with twine, rope, cord, or wire.
Containers left uncovered, overflowing, or stored out front outside collection windows may trigger DPW notices and ordinance violation summonses.
