Place your City cart at the curb no earlier than 5:00 p.m. the day before collection and no later than 7:00 a.m. on collection day. Keep it 6 feet clear of obstructions, lid closed, then bring it in as soon as practical.
Suffolk uses automated collection trucks, so cart placement is specific. Containers must be set in a central spot at the curb or street line, out no earlier than 5:00 p.m. the day before and no later than 7:00 a.m. on collection day. To be emptied, a cart must sit at least 6 feet away from vehicles, trees, poles, fences, mailboxes, and fire hydrants, with nothing overhead like low branches or power lines. All household waste must fit inside the City cart with the lid closed β bags left beside it are not collected. Empty carts must be removed as soon as practical, except commercial containers in the Downtown Business District, which must be off the curb by 10:00 a.m.
Bags or overflow set outside the closed cart are left behind, and a cart blocked by cars or poles may be skipped. Carts left permanently at the curb can draw a property-maintenance or nuisance citation under Chapter 34.
