Adair County, IA Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

The Adair County Sanitary Landfill and Recycling Center, at 1645 IA-25, Menlo, serves Casey, Bridgewater, Fontanelle, Greenfield, Menlo, Orient and Stuart, and all unincorporated areas of Adair County. Its fee schedule is published on the county website. Ordinance No. 32, Section 1 directs that solid waste generated within the unincorporated area be disposed of at the Adair County Sanitary Landfill unless a hauler obtains a written waiver from the Board of Supervisors.

Solid waste and construction/demolition debris cost $100.00 per ton (beginning 07/01/2026), with a minimum charge of $25.00 beginning 8/1/2024. The same page still carries an earlier notice describing a step to $90 per ton, which it attributes to tipping fee increases at the landfill the county hauls its waste to.

Bulk items are charged per item. All appliances, meaning white and brown goods such as refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, microwaves, stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers and hot water heaters, carry a $15.00 per item disposal fee. Mattresses and box springs are $10.00 each, and a single mattress brought alone totals $35.00, which the page explains as the $25.00 minimum load charge plus the $10.00 mattress fee. All tires are $.20 per pound.

Electronics are priced by size: TV and computer screens or monitors at 21 inches and under are $15.00 each, 21 to 40 inches are $25.00 each, and 41 inches and up are $30.00 each. Printers, CPUs, towers, fax machines, VCRs and DVD players are $5.00 each. Household hazardous waste is handled by contacting the office, and the landfill number is 641-743-8343.
