The City of Nashua Division of Public Works, Solid Waste Department, picks up the first 5 oversized items per residential account per year at NO charge through its curbside bulky-item program; additional items are $25 each. Curbside oversize pickup runs mid-April through mid-October only. Requests must be submitted by Friday afternoon for the following week's pickup. Electronics and construction and demolition (C&D) debris are NOT collected curbside but can be brought to the Four Hills Landfill / Nashua Recycling Center at 840 West Hollis Street. Household hazardous waste is handled at scheduled HHW collection events. Effective July 1, 2025, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are prohibited from NH landfills and incinerators.
Nashua's bulk disposal options sit within the Solid Waste Department's operational framework. Three pathways: (1) Curbside oversize item pickup โ the Solid Waste Department picks up the first 5 oversized items per account per year at no charge; after the 5-item annual limit, the charge is $25 per item. Accepted items include furniture, large appliances, mattresses, and brush bundles (maximum 60 pounds, branches no more than 3 inches in diameter and no longer than 4 feet, tied in a bundle). Residential tires without rims are accepted for the first 4 annually at no charge. Curbside pickup operates only from mid-April through mid-October; there is no curbside oversize service from mid-October through mid-April. Requests must be submitted by Friday afternoon for the following week's pickup, by calling 603-589-3410 or the online form. (2) Direct drop-off at Four Hills Landfill, 840 West Hollis Street, with a $5 annual residential permit. The DPW Building at Four Hills accepts electronics โ computer monitors and components, printers, televisions, VCRs, DVD players โ Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (3) Scheduled household hazardous waste collection events. Acceptable hazardous wastes include oil-based paints, pesticides, varnish, wood preservatives, thinners, pool chemicals, antifreeze, lithium and button batteries, and driveway sealers, with a $20 fee for up to 10 gallons or 20 pounds. Rechargeable batteries, mercury devices, cell phones, and fluorescent bulbs are accepted year-round at the Four Hills Recycling Center. PROHIBITED from curbside: electronics, C&D debris, and commercial tires. Refrigerators and freezers require refrigerant evacuation by a certified technician under federal Clean Air Act Section 608 (40 CFR Part 82) before disposal. Effective July 1, 2025, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are prohibited from disposal in New Hampshire landfills and incinerators under Env-Sw rules.
Setting electronics or C&D debris out for curbside collection violates Solid Waste Department policy โ they are not picked up. Illegal dumping is enforceable under RSA 149-M:9 (Prohibitions) and the Nashua Revised Ordinances. Disposing of household hazardous waste, electronics covered under NH's product stewardship rules, or (effective July 1, 2025) rechargeable lithium-ion batteries in regular trash violates RSA 149-M and Env-Sw rules and is enforceable by NHDES. Venting refrigerant from an appliance without certified recovery violates federal Clean Air Act Section 608 (40 CFR 82.156) with civil penalties up to $59,973 per day per violation (40 CFR 19 EPA inflation-adjusted). After-hours dumping at Four Hills Landfill is enforceable under the Nashua Revised Ordinances.
