Palo Alto, CA Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

GreenWaste of Palo Alto provides on-call bulky item collection to single-family and small-multifamily customers, typically including two free pickups per year (each allowing several large items such as sofas, mattresses, dressers, and large appliances). Additional pickups or oversized loads may incur a fee. Appointments must be scheduled at least a week in advance through the GreenWaste customer portal or by phone. Items must be set at the curb by 6:00 AM on the scheduled date and cannot be placed in the public right-of-way more than 24 hours ahead. Prohibited items include household hazardous waste, paint, motor oil, tires, construction debris, and electronics (e-waste), which must be taken to the San Antonio Household Hazardous Waste facility or recycled through certified programs. Leaving bulky items at the curb without an appointment constitutes illegal dumping under Chapter 5.24 of the municipal code and is subject to fines. Apartment complexes should coordinate bulky disposal with property management.
