Sunnyvale single-family residential customers are entitled to two free on-call bulky item collections per calendar year through Specialty Solid Waste and Recycling. Each collection includes up to five cubic yards of bulky material such as furniture, mattresses, carpet rolls, and appliances. Items must be scheduled in advance by calling SSWR at (408) 565-9900 or by using the online request form. Items must be placed at the curb no earlier than the evening before the scheduled pickup. Mattresses should be free of plastic wrap. Electronics (televisions, computers, monitors) and household hazardous waste (paint, batteries, chemicals) cannot be collected curbside and must be taken to the SMaRT Station or Santa Clara County Household Hazardous Waste drop-off. Illegal dumping of bulk items on public property carries fines of up to 1000 dollars and possible misdemeanor charges.
