Each unincorporated Stanislaus County residence subscribed to weekly garbage service is eligible for bulky-item pickup twice a year, covering large appliances, water heaters, mattresses, carpet, and furniture. Residents may also self-haul to the County's Fink Road Landfill for a fee. Illegal dumping is prohibited and enforced.
Bulky items that do not fit in carts have two legal disposal paths in unincorporated Stanislaus County. First, every residence in the unincorporated area that subscribes to weekly garbage service is eligible to have bulky items picked up at the home two times per year. Eligible items include large appliances, water heaters, mattresses and box springs, carpet, and furniture. Residents arrange these pickups through their franchised hauler (Bertolotti, Gilton, or Turlock Scavenger). Second, residents may self-haul materials to the County-owned Fink Road Sanitary Landfill at 4000 Fink Road in Crows Landing, operated by the Department of Environmental Resources, which accepts refuse including tires and bulky items for a fee. The County strongly discourages illegal dumping: dumping appliances, mattresses, furniture, or trash on public land or alleys is prohibited. To report dumping in progress, residents should note the vehicle, license plate, and suspect description and call the Sheriff's non-emergency dispatch at (209) 552-2468; to report already-dumped material, call Environmental Resources at (209) 525-6700, use the County CRM, or the GoRequest app. For hauling, the County recommends using a permitted small hauler and keeping a receipt showing delivery to an approved disposal facility.
Illegally dumping bulky items, appliances, mattresses, or trash on public land, alleys, or vacant lots is prohibited and reportable to the Sheriff and Environmental Resources, leading to abatement and enforcement. Exceeding the two free bulky pickups per year requires self-haul to the landfill for a fee.
