Modesto provides residential customers two free curbside bulky item pickups per calendar year through licensed haulers Gilton Solid Waste Management and Bertolotti Disposal. Items must be placed curbside the evening before pickup. Most large household items are accepted; construction debris and hazardous materials are excluded.
Governed by MMC Title 5, Chapter 5, Articles 156β157, the Bulky Item Collection Program entitles each residential single-family customer to two pickups per calendar year. Schedule by contacting Gilton Solid Waste Management (209-527-3781) or Bertolotti Disposal (209-537-8000). Items must be placed in the street against the curb no earlier than 6 PM the evening before pickup. Accepted items include appliances (doors removed), furniture, mattresses, exercise equipment, bicycles, hot tubs, and water heaters. Prohibited items include concrete, construction debris, hazardous materials, tires, TVs, monitors, yard waste, liquids, and paints. Multi-family residents may access the program through a pilot program with fees TBD.
Placing prohibited or unscheduled bulky items on public streets or alleys constitutes illegal dumping under MMC Β§ 5-5.105β5-5.106, subject to administrative fines beginning at $1,000 for first violation, escalating to $1,500 and $2,000 for repeat violations within 12 months.
