Stanislaus County uses standard California curb colors. Red means no stopping, standing, or parking (Code Sec. 11.08.010); green means time-limit parking (Code Sec. 11.08.030); blue is reserved for disabled-placard vehicles (Code Sec. 11.08.100); yellow and white are loading zones (Chapter 11.12). All trace authority to Vehicle Code 21458, and only the county may paint regulatory curbs.
Curb-color regulations in unincorporated Stanislaus County are set in Title 11. Code Sec. 11.08.010 provides that under Vehicle Code 21458 a red curb indicates no stopping, standing, or parking, and that under Vehicle Code 22507 the county may restrict parking and give notice by signs or markings. Code Sec. 11.08.030 provides that a green curb indicates time-limit parking for the days and hours specified. Code Sec. 11.08.100 provides that a blue curb indicates parking limited exclusively to vehicles of physically handicapped persons, citing Vehicle Code 22511.7, under which a designated disabled space is marked by blue paint on the curb and may also be signed. Yellow and white curbs are loading zones under Chapter 11.12 (Code Secs. 11.12.010 and 11.12.030). Curb colors are regulatory only when applied by the local authority; private parties may not paint curbs to create or imitate these restrictions. The county also designates specific streets where red, green, and blue curbs apply (for example Code Secs. 11.08.020, 11.08.040, and 11.08.110). Violating a curb-color restriction is enforced as a parking infraction; violations of Chapter 11.08 are punishable under Vehicle Code 42001 (Code Sec. 11.32.010). The curb color you see is the controlling signal where it has been officially applied.
Stopping or parking at a red curb at any time, overstaying a green time-limit curb, or parking at a blue curb without a valid disabled placard or plate are infractions under Chapter 11.08 and Vehicle Code 42001. Painting a curb to mimic a regulatory color without county authority is not enforceable and may itself be a violation.
