Modesto enforces a 72-hour street-parking limit citywide under MMC Title 3, Chapter 2, Article 10. Designated residential areas also operate Residential Parking Permit Zones (Article 19) restricting overnight parking to permit holders only.
Modesto Municipal Code Title 3, Chapter 2, Article 10 (Stopping, Standing and Parking), Section 3-2.1002 prohibits using public streets as long-term vehicle storage. Any vehicle left in the same spot for more than 72 consecutive hours may be cited and towed. In Residential Parking Permit Zones established under MMC Title 3, Article 19, overnight parking is further restricted to vehicles displaying a valid residential permit, typically from late evening through early morning. The Modesto Police Department and Parking Services Division enforce both provisions. The fine schedule effective May 4, 2020 sets the 72-hour violation at $108 per citation. Recreational vehicles must comply with additional restrictions under zoning code.
72-hour overstay citation: $108. Parking in a restricted zone without a permit: $60. Vehicles may be towed at owner's expense.
