Modesto, CA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Modesto Municipal Code Title 3, Chapter 2, section 3-2.1006 ('Parking of Commercial Vehicles in Residential Districts') prohibits parking commercial vehicles in residentially zoned areas of the city. The Parking Violation Fine Schedule lists the citation at $127.00 (inclusive of state surcharges). Modesto's zoning code defines a commercial vehicle as 'a motor vehicle designed or used for the transportation of persons, commodities or materials' with a declared gross or combined gross vehicle weight exceeding ten thousand (10,000) pounds. Companion on-street rules include section 3-2.1301 (Truck Routes - $96) which restricts truck traffic to designated routes, and section 3-2.1511 ($71) which bars commercial vehicles from metered parking stalls. Oversized vehicles (sec. 3-2.2006, $83), trailers parked alone (sec. 3-2.2007, $137), and oversized vehicles without a permit (sec. 3-2.2008, $129) are addressed in Article 20. California Vehicle Code § 22507.5 separately authorizes cities to restrict on-street commercial-vehicle parking in residential districts between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. with appropriate signage.
