Thousand Oaks residents can schedule bulky item pickups through the city's contracted waste hauler for large items like furniture, appliances, and mattresses. A limited number of free pickups may be included in the annual service. The Simi Valley Landfill and nearby transfer stations accept self-hauled items.
The city's contracted waste hauler provides scheduled bulky item pickup for residential customers. Items eligible for bulk pickup include furniture, mattresses, large appliances (with doors removed), electronics, and other oversized items that do not fit in regular bins. A limited number of free bulky pickups may be included in annual trash service; additional pickups have per-item fees. Items must be placed at the curb on the scheduled day. Hazardous waste, construction debris, and tires are not accepted through bulky pickup and must be disposed of at designated facilities. The Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center accepts self-hauled items for a fee. Ventura County also hosts periodic household hazardous waste collection events. E-waste can be recycled through certified e-waste collectors.
Dumping bulky items illegally on streets or public property carries fines up to $1,000. Items left at the curb outside scheduled pickups may result in code enforcement action.
