Vancouver residents with active garbage service receive one free curbside bulky item pickup per calendar year for up to five items under 100 lbs each. Additional pickups are available for a fee. Appliances, furniture, tires, and yard equipment are accepted. Items must be placed within 100 feet of the curb.
VMC Β§ 6.12.205 (Discarded Appliances, Furniture and Tires) provides that bulky items shall be collected on regular collection schedules when possible, with items placed so the collection vehicle can come within five feet. For a special pickup, items must be within 100 feet of any curb, street edge, or alley (VMC Β§ 6.12.201). The City's contracted hauler (Waste Connections) provides one free annual curbside pickup of up to five bulky items per household (each under 100 lbs). Additional items or pickups are charged at scheduled rates β e.g., approximately $15β$38 per item depending on size. Accepted items include furniture, mattresses, small appliances, lawn mowers, bicycles, and outdoor equipment; tires and refrigerants require special handling.
Placing prohibited items in regular carts or setting bulk items out improperly may result in items not being collected and a service notice. Illegal dumping is prosecuted under VMC Β§ 6.12.161 and state law.
