Winston-Salem offers weekly curbside bulky item pickup for residential customers. Items such as furniture, mattresses, and appliances must be called in by 3:00 PM the business day before collection. Up to 4 cubic yards per week is included in sanitation fees.
The Sanitation Division provides bulky waste collection as part of standard residential service under Code Chapter 46. Eligible items include furniture, mattresses, appliances (CFCs must be removed or certified), carpet rolls under 4 feet long, and other oversized household items that do not fit in the roll cart. Residents must request a bulky pickup through CityLink 311 (online or by phone) by 3:00 PM on the business day before their regular collection day. Items should be placed at the curb no earlier than 24 hours before pickup and no later than 6:00 AM on collection day. The weekly limit is approximately 4 cubic yards. Construction debris, tires, hazardous waste, and electronics are NOT collected curbside and must be taken to the Forsyth County Solid Waste Facility at Overdale Road or the 3RC drop-off at Old Salisbury Road. White goods with refrigerant require a signed certification that refrigerant has been recovered by a licensed technician.
Placing bulk items without a scheduled request or exceeding the weekly limit can result in left-behind items and a $100 cleanup fee added to the utility bill. Illegal dumping charges may apply for repeat offenders.
