Winston-Salem prohibits parking of commercial vehicles over 1 ton in residential zoning districts. Semi-trucks, dump trucks, and large delivery vehicles cannot be stored on residential streets or driveways overnight. Service vans and pickups generally exempt.
Winston-Salem UDO restricts storage of commercial vehicles in residential districts to preserve neighborhood character. Vehicles with manufacturer rated capacity exceeding 1 ton (such as semi-tractors, box trucks, dump trucks, and heavy equipment) cannot be parked overnight on residential streets or driveways. Standard service vehicles including pickup trucks, utility vans, and SUVs with business signage are generally permitted. Trailers attached to commercial vehicles also count toward the restriction. Commercial vehicles may make deliveries or provide on-site services during normal business hours without violating the ordinance. On-street parking of commercial vehicles in commercial and industrial zones is permitted subject to the 72-hour limit. Tractor-trailers idling for more than 5 minutes in residential areas may violate NC DEQ anti-idling rules.
Parking violation: 50 to 100 dollar civil citation per day. Towing authorized after 24 hours notice.
