Stafford County, VA Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 21-8 of the Stafford County Code sets the minimum pickup frequency that licensed refuse removers must provide. Residential areas countywide must be collected and removed not less than once weekly. Higher-traffic and higher-volume properties, including hotels, motels, restaurants, schools, institutions, apartments, and other commercial establishments, must be serviced not less than twice weekly. The county reserves the right to require more frequent collection than these floors whenever it determines that additional pickups are essential to protecting public health, meaning the twice-weekly and once-weekly figures are minimums rather than a fixed schedule.

The frequency rule sits inside the same Article I framework as the refuse-remover permit system: only a remover holding a valid permit from the Rappahannock Regional Solid Waste Management Board, the county's joint landfill authority with the City of Fredericksburg, may collect and haul refuse to the regional landfill, and vehicles must be emptied every time they are dumped and cleaned twice a week while in use under Section 21-9. Frequency and hauling-hours requirements work together: haulers meeting the twice-weekly commercial floor still cannot start collection before the hours set in Section 21-7.
