Texas City, TX Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 53.12 of the Texas City Code of Ordinances fixes the frequency: garbage shall customarily be collected twice weekly. The code prints no weekday assignments, so a resident's actual collection days come from the city rather than the ordinance. Every owner, agent, lessee, tenant or occupant of a house, building, flat, apartment or tenement where persons reside, board or lodge, or where food is prepared or served, must keep approved containers for garbage collection by the city (§ 53.03).

Section 53.13 covers the money side. Monthly charges for basic collection services, which include garbage, trash, yard waste and brush, are established by a resolution passed by the City Commission and must be published at least 30 days in advance of the effective date. Charges are billed each month at the same time as water and sewer bills and are due and payable in the office of the Utilities Department within 15 days of the billing date. Charges not paid by the sixteenth day after the billing date are increased by 10%. Under § 53.14, a customer who does not pay faces action up to and including disconnection under the city's billing and fees procedure.

Commercial and institutional properties and other property not entitled to residential service must contract for commercial garbage collection through the city's exclusive franchise hauler (§ 53.15). Small commercial generators can subscribe to city hand collection limited to six containers of no more than 33 gallons each (§ 53.16). Containers go out by 7:00 a.m. on collection day under § 53.06(D). Commercial refuse collection in residential areas is barred before 7:00 a.m. or after 8:00 p.m. (§ 53.21).
