Columbus, GA Trash & Recycling: Dumpster Rules (2026)

The Columbus, Georgia Unified Development Ordinance regulates dumpsters, compactors, and recycling bins that are visible from a public street or from residential uses or zoning districts. Dumpsters must be reasonably accessible to sanitation vehicles, kept out of public rights-of-way, and located at least 25 feet from a residential zoning district unless the Director waives that distance. Every dumpster covered by the section must be screened on all four sides to a minimum height of six feet, with gates that close when not in use and screening materials matching the principal building's architectural style, color, and materials. Single-family and duplex dwellings and temporary construction dumpsters are exempt.
