In unincorporated Ada County, residential trash collection is mandatory: owners served by the county's contractor must receive weekly trash service and pay for it under Ada County Code 5-2-4-1. Hardin Sanitation is the current contractor; recycling is collected every other week.
Ada County Code 5-2-4-1 requires mandatory residential solid-waste collection for owners of residential premises in unincorporated Ada County that can be served by the county's contractor (currently Hardin Sanitation). Under the code, those owners shall be provided collection services and are required to pay for them, pursuant to Idaho Code sections 31-4404, 63-902(10), and 31-870. Standard service is one 95-gallon trash cart with weekly pickup and one 95-gallon recycling cart collected bi-weekly. Suspensions or hardship exemptions are available for inaccessible premises or financial hardship. City residents are billed and served under their own municipal contracts.
Failure to comply with the solid-waste code is a misdemeanor under Ada County Code 5-2-10, punishable under Idaho Code 18-113; unremedied violations after three days are separate offenses.
