Buffalo provides weekly curbside refuse and recycling pickup via the Department of Public Works, with totes placed at curb no earlier than the evening before collection.
Buffalo DPW Division of Streets and Sanitation collects refuse and recycling weekly on assigned routes. Residents receive a green 96-gallon refuse tote and a blue 96-gallon recycling tote (dual-stream single-cart). Totes must be at the curb by 7:00 AM on collection day and placed out no earlier than 4:00 PM the day before. Totes must be removed from the curb by the end of collection day. Refuse outside the tote is not collected unless in approved yard waste paper bags (seasonal). The User Fee (annual trash fee) funds collection and is billed on the property tax bill. Missed pickups can be reported to 311.
Tote left at curb past collection day or placed out early: warning then fine. Improper set-out: refusal to collect.
