Unincorporated Clayton County is served by private licensed haulers, not a county curbside route. Contractors must provide at least once-per-week residential collection (Sec. 78-7). Anyone collecting solid waste for a fee must be licensed by the county.
Under Code of Clayton County Sec. 78-7(2), contractors must provide a minimum of once-per-week residential collection. Solid-waste collection in the unincorporated county is handled by private contract haulers who must be licensed by the Board of Commissioners and meet all state and county requirements before operating (Sec. 78-8); the license is nontransferable and privileged. Haulers must file and keep updated the geographic areas they serve (Sec. 78-5) and carry required liability insurance (Sec. 78-4). Residents contract directly with a licensed hauler. Clayton County Refuse Control also provides services and operates the county's disposal facilities. Cities such as Jonesboro and Forest Park run or arrange their own sanitation collection.
Operating as a hauler without a county license, or otherwise violating Chapter 78, is a misdemeanor under Sec. 78-16, with each day a separate offense. A hauler's license may be suspended or revoked by the Board of Commissioners after notice
